Science Exhibition 2008-09 - Zonal

R-West Ward Science ExhibitionTaking off from a win in the R-West Ward Science Exhibition, our budding scientists were beaming on being selected for a State level Science Exhibition that was conducted from 6th - 13th Feb’08 at Solapur. We are happy at the way they projected their views about the Karanja tree that set many minds thinking. Thanks to one brain wave, we had a flood of eco- friendly ideas. At times it is alright to let winning take a back seat, when putting a message across is more important.

Kudos to our young scientists.

From brilliant science projects to environmental concern, be it the research -backed exhibits or the detailed explanation, the staff and students of Rustomjee International School seem to have made perfecting every effort their second nature.

Well, this dynamic school has proved its mettle beyond doubt in the R- ward Science Exhibition held at St. Rocks School, Gorai from the 20th - 22nd of Nov'08. An opportunity well received by each and every member of the faculty as well as the budding student scientists. This year the school presented a highly systematic and eco-relevant project, Effects of pollution on the production of carbohydrate in plants, that won the prestigious first prize in the senior category. The experiments were based on a careful monitoring of carbohydrate production and chlorophyll synthesis in plants. The student- researchers made a comparative study of the leaves from Sanjay Gandhi National Park and those from Kashimira that revealed higher carbohydrate content in the leaves of the National Park suggesting better air-quality. Besides, they also checked the transmission of light using a digital photo colorimeter proving a gradual decrease in chlorophyll production as one moves towards more polluted areas.

Along with the Senior group, the middle school (Junior group) did not stay behind and clinched the second prize in their respective category for the project on Population Education, Survival Techniques that served as an eye- opener regarding poverty, population explosion and the like. It indicated that a person can have his full meal free of cost, thanks to the variety of vegetables grown in his backyard by himself encouraging the Barter System.

This institution has multi-faceted students who excelled equally in co-curricular activities which were part of the R-ward Scientific and Cultural events. Words are less to exalt this successful temple of knowledge tucked in Dahisar. So go on and read the scroll of honour and achievements of Rustomjee International School at the R-ward Science Exhibition 2008.
